Oahu, Hawaii

Kristi Dreibergs

Oahu is one of the rare places in the world that is a complete mixture of being both a city and a tropical paradise. The surf breaks, snorkel and dive spots, golf courses, natural wonders, scenic hikes, historical attractions, hotels and resorts, high rises and beauty of this island makes for a great vacay.

The perfect hotel to stay at when visiting Waikiki, is the Halekulani! It is a luxury hotel, in a prime beach front location. The surf spot out the front is so much fun, and it is walking distance to great shops and places to eat! Its clean and the rooms are so spacious. The scenery is beautiful, and all in all it is an awesome experience.

North Shore:

A trip to the north shore is an absolute must. A day trip is fun, but we recommend you stay at the Turtle bay resort: It’s so peaceful and lush. You can surf here, kayak in the secluded Kawela bay & spot sea turtles, play golf, relax by the pool or enjoy the day spa! Fun fact: forgetting Sarah Marshall was filmed here!

A list of things you must do in OAHU:

Surfing- it is my favourite place in the world to surf. The water is warm, the waves are fun, and the rides are long! You also see so many turtles while out surfing, it’s amazing! We hired boards from Big wave Dave & from Starboard.

Take a trip to the north shore. Either stay a few nights or spend the day exploring- Turtle bay resort is nice in the afternoon for cocktails and the sunset.

Check out Waimea bay- such a pretty bay, plenty of marine life to see and you can go cliff jumping, which is super fun!

Banzai Pipeline- Depending on what time of year it is, this place is famous for its barrelling waves. (still cool to check out even when there is no surf)

Take a sunset cruise on a catamaran

The royal hotel- It’s a pink hotel and the front bar is super nice for cocktails and there’s often a fire dancing show on at around 6pm/7pm

Go shopping at the cute boutiques

Natural geography gallery is super cool

The Kahala hotel & resort is so relaxing to just go to the beach and read a good book- so peaceful & so pretty! (It would also be really nice to stay here!)

Hike diamond head- It’s an awesome hike and has great views, pack your camera for this one

Koko Head- A hike for the more experienced!

Lanikai beach is very beautiful on a sunny day- Go to Buzz’s original steak house for lunch or dinner when you are exploring the east side.

Relax by your hotel pool with a good cocktail- If you’re staying at the Halekulani order a club sandwich by the pool too. So good.

Our favourite places to eat-

Orchids- for fine dining, really nice meals!

Sweets E’s- America breakfast- most amazing banana pancakes

Island vintage coffee- amazing pokè bowls, açai bowls, garlic prawns with rice!! Try all of it, very fresh and so delicious. Probably our fav.

Dukes- great chicken wings, burgers & seafood (awesome fish and chips)

Cheesecake Factory- for amazing cheesecake (the lemon meringue cheesecake.. wow)

Sunrise shack Waikiki- great açai bowls and avocado toast ->Honolulu coffee next door has pretty good coffee

Goofys- Amazing French toast, açai bowls and poke bowls

Roy’s- Really good ribs and steaks

Arancino- Italian

Teppan & Sushi Kaiwa- for nice fresh sushi

Cafè Glacè- the BEST ice cream

Leonard’s- donuts, need I say more?

North shore- the Japanese food truck called number 7 has good Japanese food

We hope this blog gets you excited to plan a trip to Oahu!

With love
